Do you remember your first flight? Where did you go? Why?
Submitted by Laurel.
I flew from Portland to Sacramento on United Airlines. It was before they stopped running that route and before Sacramento opened the new terminal. I took dramamine just in case, but didn't need it. I was something like 20 years old.
How well do you know your next-door neighbors?
We play with his dogs.
What magazines do you subscribe to, and why?
1. Mens Health. My sister-in-law got me a gift subscription many years ago and keeps renewing it. I find it interesting and informative.
2. Newsweek. I really have little use for this magazine, but it was free with my public television membership.
There used to be more, but we've really cut back. I was a long-time subscriber to The Economist, which I consider the best newsweekly, but it's expensive, and I wasn't reading it every week.
I saw a video of Diane Sawyer and her male counterpart Mr. Whatshisname "interviewing" a two year old golf phenom. I don't begrudge the kid his fun, but I have wonder for whom is it more fun? The kid? The parents? Certainly not me because I don't give a shit.
Let the kid be a kid, people.
What was the worst advice you ever received? Did you follow it?
It's odd, but I don't have a "worst advice" story. In fact, I don't remember much ever asking for advice. I was always trying to solve my problems on my own. Rugged individualist, I was.
A lot of people talked me out of going to law school. A few people wish I had.
Instead, I think about a lot of the advice I wish I'd been given (or I wish I'd listened to). Stuff like always set aside ten percent of your income. Just live on less like you were earning less.

Well said. And pithily, too! read more
